GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Design and produce a variety of artwork for instructional and display purposes; design and produce camera-ready artwork for reproduction purposes; use various graphic media and equipment to achieve desired results.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):
- Design and create printed and electronic (web/digital) publications and artwork for promotional and/or instructional purposes in accordance with parameters established by in-house clients, budget availability, etc. Use a variety of tools and techniques including but not limited to a computer, graphics and desktop publishing software and peripheral equipment, stock photography, freehand illustrations, etc.
- Advise marketing and communications specialist or originating department/internal client of suitable layout, typeface, art, ink, paper and method of reproduction in cooperation with the Copy Center and/or outside vendors.
- Estimate project turnaround time. Prioritize a current project based on need, overall importance and available resources. Maintain records of turnaround dates.
- Perform other studio operations such as laminating, poster making and photo/artwork scanning.
- Maintain electronic files of work. Package, archive, and back up all jobs.
- Remain current and knowledgeable of developments in computer graphics software.
- Troubleshoot equipment and software either independently or with assistance of internal/external computer consultants, graphic artists, production center personnel.
- Work as staff photographer to capture the true campus environment for graphic design team.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required and Preferred):
Education/Training and Experience
- Associate degree in computer graphics/art and three years work experience in commercial graphic art or illustration.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities, is acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic principles and practices in graphic arts, computer, graphics: digital design for web/social media, billboards: packaging and archiving projects: desktop publishing software, and computer peripheral equipment.
- Skills in designing and producing promotional materials.
- Knowledge of promotional copywriting, editing and AP Stylebook guidelines a plus.
- Must be detailed oriented, organized and able to work against tight deadlines.
- Abilities to learn and properly apply departmental policies and procedures; maintain a current knowledge base in graphic arts, clean and care for equipment, tools and work area, meet established deadlines, perform routine and detailed tasks in an accurate and efficient manner; maintain effective interpersonal working relationships.
- Provide brand contributions to the college's established image.
- Cross training for college's webstie and print room.
- Other duties as assigned.
